Art Exhibitions

The Whitney Museum of American Art’s 82nd Biennial

The Whitney Museum of American Art’s 82nd Biennial has returned until Aug. 23. The Whitney Biennial is the longest-running survey of contemporary art, first implemented in 1932. The 2026 Biennial features artwork from 56 artists, duos and collectives, each examining different environments and moods that attest to present-day issues, challenges, relationships and more. Featured artists include Ignacio Gatica, Jordan Strafer and Aki Onda. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

“New Humans: Memories of the Future” at New Museum

Having been closed since March 2024, the New Museum is set to reopen on March 21 after its two-year, 60,000-square-foot expansion project, offering free admission during the opening weekend. Set to inaugurate the New Museum’s expanded building is “New Humans: Memories of the Future”, an exhibition that examines what it means to be human during a time of endlessly advancing technology. The exhibition will feature over 150 international artists, architects, writers, filmmakers and more. Tickets are available for purchase on the museum’s website or at the door.

“Raphael: Sublime Poetry” at The Met

From March 29 to June 28, guests can view “Raphael: Sublime Poetry”, the only comprehensive exhibition on Raffaello di Giovanni Santi – better known as Raphael – at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibition will take a deep dive into Raphael’s work as an artist, painter, designer, and architect throughout his 37 years of life, with a particular focus on the Italian Renaissance figure’s portrayal of women within his art. “Raphael: Sublime Poetry” is free with museum admission, and tickets can be purchased on the museum’s website or at the door.

Marcel Duchamp at MoMA

300 of Marcel Duchamp’s artworks will be unveiled at the Museum of Modern Art on April 12, celebrating the artist’s first retrospective in the United States since 1973. Over his six-decade career, Duchamp was credited with questioning what art itself is in some of the most innovative ways. From his invention of readymades to his unconventional “Fountain”, a urinal signed with his pseudonym “R. Mutt”, this exhibition is not something to miss. MoMA will have Duchamp’s retrospective on view until Aug. 22. Tickets are available for purchase on the museum’s website or at the door.

“Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses” at Brooklyn Museum 

200 Eastern Parkway / Website

Opening on May 16, fashion designer Iris van Herpen’s clothing that blends contemporary technology techniques with traditional craftsmanship will be on view at the Brooklyn Museum. The haute couture designs will be displayed in conversation with a wide range of artworks, artifacts, and specimens by artists such as Nick Knight, Casey Curren, and Rogan Brown. The exhibition will take visitors on an adventure that discusses how the body flows within ever-changing environments. “Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses” will be on view until Dec. 6. “Guggenheim Pop” at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

From June 5 to Jan. 10, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum will be featuring a wide range of sculptures, paintings and other pop artworks that express American culture post-World War II in their new “Guggenheim Pop” exhibition. The showcase will feature prominent artists from the 1960s, including Andy Warhol, Richard Hamilton, Roy Lichtenstein and more. Contemporary artists Josh Kline, Lucía Hierro and Maurizio Cattelan will have some of their recent works presented alongside the pop art, promoting conversations surrounding American consumerism in the past and present-day. Art Fairs

The International Fine Print Dealers Association’s 32nd Print Fair

Established in 1991, the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) will be organizing its 32nd Print Fair from April 9 to April 12. IFPDA is the only nonprofit in the United States whose mission is to support and curate exhibitions, internships and other educational programs specifically for drawing and printmaking. The IFPDA’s Print Fair is the world’s longest-running fair dedicated to the art of printmaking, with this upcoming fair featuring over 80 international dealers. Live talks with experts such as Derrick Adams, Hank Willis Thomas and Julie Mehretu will also be held. Tickets can be purchased on IFPDA’s website.

The Association of International Photography Art Dealers’ 45th Photography Show

The Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) is hosting its 45th edition of The Photography Show from April 22 to April 26. AIPAD’s Photography Show is the world’s longest-running photography fair, first starting in 1994. This festival will feature over 67 international galleries and special “Focal Point Sectors”, with works dating back to the 19th century. AIPAD will also hold live talk events covering themes of photography processes, practices and history. Tickets can be purchased on AIPAD’s website.

Future Fair at Chelsea Industrial

Founded in 2020, the Future Fair strives to highlight contemporary artists and foster easier access and growth within the global arts industry. This year’s Future Fair will be held from May 13 until May 16 and will feature 68 local, national and international exhibitors. Nearly half of these exhibitors are from the New York Tri-State area, along with nine countries and four continents represented. Tickets will be available for purchase on Future Fair’s website in the coming weeks.

Frieze New York’s Art Fair at The Shed

From May 13 to May 17, Frieze New York is hosting its 15th art fair. Originally an international art and culture magazine founded in 1991, the brand has since expanded to treat art lovers around the world with annual art fairs in cities like London, New York and Los Angeles. The 2026 Frieze New York Art Fair, which launched in 2012, will highlight approximately 70 galleries, performance-led programs and nonprofit collaborations. The galleries will feature work from artists such as Joanne Burke, Aki Goto and Seba Calfuqueo. Tickets can be purchased on Frieze New York’s website.

1-54’s 12th Contemporary African Art Fair

Opening on May 13, 1-54’s African Art Fair will be returning to New York City for the 12th time. Founded in 2013 by Touria El Glaoui, 1-54 is the first and only art fair in the world that focuses on contemporary African Art. 1-54’s African Art Fair will run until May 17 and will feature diverse artwork from Africa, panel discussions and artist talks. New York’s 10th European Fine Art Fair

The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) is returning to New York City on May 15 for the 10th time. The fair will feature over 90 international galleries, spotlighting both modern and contemporary art, antiques, designs and jewelry. There will also be live talks and tours led by experts discussing the history of the arts and the market. The European Fine Art Fair will be running until May 19, and tickets will be available for purchase on TEFAF’s website in the coming weeks.
