A bill (S.1279A/A.1328A) has been re-introduced by New York state Sen. Liz Krueger and state Assemblymember Pam Hunter to allow wine to be sold in grocery stores – something lawmakers have been pushing for years. Additionally, a bill (S.9032) introduced by state Sen. Luis Sepulveda would permit the selling of both wine and liquor in grocery stores.
At this point, neither bill is part of state budget negotiations.
The state’s more than 3,500 wine and spirits package stores are passionately against both proposals, saying the move would put them out of business.Â
Nelson Eusebio, director of government affairs at the National Supermarket Association, discussed why the issue is important to grocery stores with Capital Tonight’s Susan Arbetter.
