UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — After rumors swirled this week that the longstanding Lenox Hill trattoria Mezzaluna would be closing at the end of the week after more than 40 years in business, a manager confirmed to Patch that the plans are not actually set in stone.

“We’re taking it day-by-day,” the manager told Patch on the phone. “Nothing is confirmed yet.”

The Upper East Side restaurant, which has fed generations of Upper East Siders, features a menu of comforting Italian classics like penne alla vodka, margherita pizza, contadina salad, and affogato.

The rumor that the restaurant, located at 1295 3rd Ave. near East 74th Street, would be closing was first started on TikTok on Saturday.

“It’s a really special place to a lot of people that grew up here, and it’s super sad that they are closing, and hopefully it’s not true, but I don’t know. I think it’s real this time,” Upper East Sider Sophie Gerber said in a video about the rumor.

Not long after the video dropped, a petition was started to urge the restaurant to stay open. The petition has gained more than 1,200 signatures since launching.

Since then, other rumors that the restaurant would stay open through June were floated on the Instagram account, @UESThings.

However, ultimately, no decision has been made yet, the restaurant said.

On Tuesday morning, the restaurant posted on Instagram confirming that no final decisions have been made yet.

“At this stage, nothing has been finalized or signed, and we are still in discussions,” the restaurant wrote.

“We’ll share a confirmed update as soon as we can.”
