MIDTOWN EAST, NY — A 69-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run on the border of the Upper East Side and Midtown East on Wednesday morning, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the woman was walking near Second Avenue and East 57th Street when a driver in a black SUV heading downtown on Second Avenue hit her at 4:28 a.m. Wednesday.

Medics rushed the victim to the NewYork Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the driver fled eastbound on 57th Street.

No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation is underway. The identity of the victim will be kept private until the family is notified, police said.
