NEW YORK CITY — The MTA launched a new mobile app on Wednesday touting a new set of features and real-time tracking for subway and bus riders.

New Yorkers can now find real-time subway and bus arrivals close to them and view the real-time position of a train or bus and its estimated time of arrival with a single tap, according to the MTA.

The new MTA App also features live in-app customer support that can answer rider questions as well as direct customers to other MTA services.

Subway riders can access station wayfinding and transfers information. The new app displays a clearer representation of stations with multiple levels and subway lines.

Information about service changes affecting individual subway lines at a specific station is also provided.

The app also allows users to add certain lines or bus routes as their favorites.

“The new app for subway and bus customers is making a play to be another five-star download, just like TrainTime before it. This is what happens when you invest in and empower in-house talent — best-in-class innovation without the Big Tech price tag,” MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said.

Bus riders will be able to chose their favorite bus routes, have access to real-time bus location markers as well as arrival times for all bus routes at a specific stop

In addition, upgraded features include a new accessibility mode: a version of the subway map that highlights accessible stations, easier-to-find elevator and escalator status, support for screen readers and font scaling, and continued integration with Access-A-Ride, allowing customers to book and manage trips.

The new redesigned app is available to download through the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). The app is available in English and Spanish.
