A recent increase in locker break-ins at gyms has the Community Affairs and Crime Prevention officers at the NYPD’s 107th Precinct reminding people to exercise caution as well as their muscles when they stop in for a workout.

In a press release on Tuesday, the precinct is encouraging people to secure both their lockers and their valuables with either a high-quality combination lock or a key lock that has a hardened steel shackle.

Police also are advising people to never leave their lockers unlocked, or their property unattended.

They also recommend choosing a locker that is near the end of a row, as those are more visible and less likely to be tampered with.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to gym staff and 911.
