According to the university, the test will last about one minute. During that time, “Westminster Chimes,” along with a pre-recorded voice message, will be heard.
“Attention: This is a test of the Queen’s emergency notification system. This is only a test. I repeat this is only a test,” the schools social media read.
The Emergency Notification System is a public address system that has been installed on pole-mounted outdoor speakers on top of campus buildings. It allows campus security and emergency services to broadcast alerts and pre-recorded messages across campus to faculty, staff and students in the event of an emergency.
While the system is tested daily in “silent” mode, the audible test will help staff assess how well the alert can be heard.
In the event of an emergency, the notification system uses a siren, followed by voice instructions that alert the campus community about the situation.
Other resources that those on campus can find additional information include the Queen’s homepage, its mobile safety app, the university phone line, and social media.
