New York City is preparing to play a major role in the nation’s 250th birthday celebration, now just about 100 days away.

Plans are already underway for a series of events tied to the Fourth of July, including a rare Times Square Ball drop outside of New Year’s Eve to mark the historic milestone.

Another centerpiece of the celebration will take place on the water.

The Sail4th initiative will bring an international fleet of tall ships and naval vessels into New York Harbor, with 46 nations expected to participate. Dozens of ships will arrive in a ceremonial procession and remain in the city for about a week.

Chris O’Brien, president and vice chair of the Sail4th initiative, joined the “Mornings On 1” to discuss what to expect.
