Red Bull New York has completed the signing of Colombian center back Julian Bazan from Deportivo Pereira on a two-and-a-half-year MLS contract through the 2027-28 season, with options for the following two seasons, pending the receipt of his P-1 visa, a source with knowledge of the situation informs amNewYork.
The 20-year-old is expected to slot into the starting lineup as soon as he is available to play — a much-needed reinforcement for the back line.
Following an offseason in which it parted with center backs Sean Nealis, Alexander Hack, and Noah Eile, New York currently has two of its largest contributors at the position, Dylan Nealis and Justin Che, both dealing with injury issues.
Robert Voloder and Tim Parker remain options at the position, as well, but Bazan’s strength, particularly in the air, and ability to move the ball well jives with head coach Michael Bradley’s philosophy.
“Julian has earned this opportunity through his commitment and performances,” Bradley said. “He’s a player who is eager to learn, competes the right way, and understands the demands of our group. We’re looking forward to integrating him with the first team an dhelping him continue to progress.”
Bazan has represented Colombia at the youth level, making 24 appearances for the U-20 national team, which included six matches at the 2025 U-20 FIFA World Cup and a trip to the semifinals.
