MANHATTAN, Mont. — Manhattan police responded to a swatting incident at Manhattan High School Thursday afternoon.

According to the Manhattan Police Department, a report regarding a disturbance at the high school came in around 12:42 p.m.

Officers were dispatched to the scene, along with deputies from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from Montana Highway Patrol.

School officials went into a lockdown as “law enforcement personnel thoroughly evaluated and investigated the reported threat,” according to the Manhattan Police Department’s press release.

Law enforcement officials found “no legitimate threats to students, faculty, or community around the campus” and reported they were not in danger.

School officials lifted the lockdown, and the school day resumed.

The situation is currently under investigation.

Punishment for swatting may include a prison sentence of up to 10 years or a fine of up to $50,000, or both.
