Since Liverpool announced his exit on Tuesday night, there has been a lot of speculation about where Mohamed Salah could end up playing come the 2026/27 season.

Salah’s agent spoke out on his future shortly after the news broke, suggesting a new team is yet to be decided.

But that has not stopped talk about a move to the Saudi Pro League or the MLS, with New York City FC president Brad Sims now saying there has been no contact with the player despite reports.

Which players should Liverpool target to replace Mohamed Salah this summer? 🤔

A seven-man shortlist has already been reported:

As per Ben Jacobs on X/Twitter, Sims was speaking at the SBJ Business of Soccer conference when he was asked if reports linking the club with Mo Salah are true.

The MLS-club president went on to say that he ‘would love’ to have the Egyptian on his books, but there have not been ‘any discussions’.

He said: “I would love to have Mo Salah. We have not had any discussions with him or his people. What is most important is does the player want to come to MLS and be in New York City.

“We are not going to go out and sell someone on New York, the league or our club. We want players who really want to be here.

“And the other thing about star players is you need to make good choices… You need the guys who are going to be the hardest trainers, good teammates and good for the locker room and the culture. We do a lot of due diligence, and not just on star players.”

Is Mohamed Salah Liverpool’s greatest EVER player?

Nine years of sheer brilliance are coming to an end…

This week has seen Jamie Carragher float the idea of Inter Milan signing Salah after his Liverpool exit.

But there has been a previous suggestion from James Pearce that the MLS could be ‘more appealing’ to the 33-year-old than a move to the Middle East.

Speaking about Salah’s future last month, he said: “Now, the question is, will there be more suitors come the summer? The MLS is another possible destination for him.

“It’s been suggested to me that that actually is more appealing in many ways than the Saudi Pro League.”

Where Salah will end up remains to be seen, but there are a couple of factors that need to be considered.

Firstly, will he now decide he no longer wants to compete at the very top level in Europe with the potential to play Champions League football? If so, North America or Saudi Arabia could be options.

Secondly, which team could both afford and be willing to accept Salah’s wage demands for what will likely be his last big contract as a footballer?
