New York pizza chef and restaurateur Nino Coniglio — known for the recent Lucky Charlie in Bushwick — doesn’t appear to be taking a break anytime soon, and he’s leaning more into coal-oven pizza with his next new restaurant. Coniglio’s Di Napoli will open in Williamsburg at 616 Metropolitan Avenue, between Lorimer and Leonard streets, this summer.

Coniglio’s Di Napoli is summed up as an “ode to old-school New York red sauce joints,” per a rep. This means a menu of Italian American dishes such as bone-in chicken Parmesan, pastas, and coal-oven pizza. The address was previously home to Prova Pizzabar.

The bar will use imported ingredients from Italy. Lucky Charlie beverage director Rob Hoffman is also behind the drinks menu at Coniglio’s Di Napoli.

Coniglio knows his pizza. He trained under Di Fara owner Dom DeMarco of Di Fara (who died in 2022). He also won the International Pizza Challenge’s Northeast division during the International Pizza Expo & Conference in 2016.

In New York, Coniglio started with New York-style pizzeria Williamsburg Pizza in 2012, which has since expanded with several locations across NYC and one in Nebraska. He followed that with pizzerias in Crown Heights (Brooklyn Pizza Crew in 2016) and New Jersey (Coniglio’s Old Fashioned in New Jersey in 2022).
