PEOTONE, IL — Residents of a Peotone home were safe after a chimney fire Friday morning, fire officials said.
At approximately 8:16 a.m. Friday, the Manhattan Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 29000 block of South Egyptian Trail for a reported structure fire involving a chimney.
Fire units arrived on scene within 8 minutes of dispatch and reported smoke and fire showing from the chimney and roof of a small single-story residential structure. Due to the location in a non-hydranted area, a full still alarm was requested to provide additional personnel, apparatus, and support for rural water operations.

Firefighters quickly established a rural water supply, stretched an attack line, and initiated an aggressive fire attack. Crews simultaneously conducted a primary search and confirmed that all occupants were out of the residence. No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
The fire was brought under control within approximately 30 minutes. 1-800 Board Up was contacted to assist the homeowner with securing the structure following the incident.
Mutual aid departments assisting at the scene included Monee, Beecher, Manteno, University Park, Mokena, Frankfort, Grant Park, Bourbonnais, New Lenox, and Matteson.
Additional agencies provided station coverage to ensure continued emergency response capability within the district, including Aroma Park and Elwood (Station 81), and Orland and Kankakee (Station 83).
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Manhattan Fire Protection District and MABAS Division 19 Fire Investigators.
