STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— A fire on a commercial block in Rosebank drew a large FDNY response to the area on Thursday night, while prompting a notification by the city’s Emergency Management System.

The two-alarm blaze which was reported at about 8 p.m. involved the first and second floors of 1252 Bay Street, a three-story, mixed commercial and residential building.

Several streets in the surrounding neighborhood were blocked off as of 9 p.m., as emergency officials warned motorists to avoid the area.

The first floor of the building is occupied by Glitter Nail Salon. The business’ owner said he rushed to the scene when he heard what happened. He said the business opened three months ago.

Dozens of area residents and other business owners also looked on.

Windows on the second and third floors were broken with blinds hanging out of them, as firefighters were seen on extended ladders. There also appeared to be a drone flying above the building operated by the FDNY.

46 FDNY units and 141 FDNY/EMS brought the blaze under control just after 9 p.m., with no injuries, according to an FDNY spokesperson.
