LARCHMONT, New York (WABC) — Two police officers were injured after a manhole exploded in Larchmont on Friday evening.
The Larchmont Fire Department received a call reporting smoke from a manhole near in the area of Chatsworth Avenue and North Avenue just after 8 p.m. on Friday.
Shortly after emergency services arrived, two additional manholes caught fire in the area.
Nearby buildings were checked for levels of carbon monoxide and other potential hazards.
Then, a manhole cover exploded.
Two police officers were injured in the explosion. One was taken to a local hospital.
Investigators point to an underground electrical issue as the likely cause of the fire, sending ConEdison work crews to fix the issue.
