LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men’s soccer team will welcome Queens in an Atlantic Sun Conference contest at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Bellarmine (5-3-2, 1-1 ASUN) holds a 1-0-2 series lead over Queens (5-4-2, 0-0-2) in the Division-I era. This is their third matchup at Frazier Stadium; the previous two (2022, 2024) ended in scoreless draws. The 2023 contest in Charlotte, North Carolina, nearly did as well before the Knights scored with a mere four seconds left in a 1-0 victory.
ABOUT QUEENS
While Queens is seeking its first ASUN win, the Royals had productive performances in their first two conference games. Queens earned a point each in the standings with a 1-1 home draw against Central Arkansas and a scoreless stalemate at Lipscomb. The Royals are coming off a 2-1 nonconference home win over USC-Upstate. Michel Feldman and Oliver Kneer have collected two goals apiece.
KNIGHTS NOTES
• Bellarmine is 4-0 in Frazier Stadium this season while conceding a single goal on its own turf. The Knights notched home wins over Xavier (3-1), Northern Kentucky (1-0), Spalding (7-0) and Lipscomb (3-0).
• The ASUN instituted intra-divisional play only with a home-and-home format in the regular season this year. As such, Bellarmine will also travel to Gold Division counterpart Queens, with the second matchup set for Nov. 1 in Charlotte in the regular-season finale.
• This match is the last of Bellarmine’s first set of games against its Gold Division foes. The Knights notched a 3-0 home win over Lipscomb before falling 2-1 at Central Arkansas. BU will host UCA on Oct. 18 and head to Lipscomb on Oct. 25 before the aforementioned finale at Queens.
• With four ASUN games left, Central Arkansas enters Saturday as the Gold Division leader with four points. Bellarmine is next with three, Queens has two and Lipscomb has one. Three teams from each division earn bids to the ASUN Tournament.
• Bellarmine’s defense ranks first in the ASUN in fewest goals allowed (nine) and goals-against average (0.90). BU ranks third with four shutouts. The Knights conceded more than one goal in only two games this season.
• Redshirt senior goalkeeper Peter Van Euwen ranks second in the ASUN in GAA (0.97) and third in save percentage (.780) and shutouts (three).
• Sophomore forward Johan Nissen-Lie ranks first in the ASUN in goals (six), is tied for first in points (12) and shots on goal (11), and ranks fourth in total shots (20).
• Redshirt senior midfielder Brendan Schoemehl was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Team of the Week on Sept. 30 after scoring twice, including the game-winner, in the 3-0 victory over Lipscomb.
