HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A specialized incident management team has been deployed to Oahu to assist with storm recovery efforts.
City officials said the New York City Fire Department’s All-Hazards Incident Management Team arrived Saturday and is working alongside local crews following the recent Kona low storm.
The 14-member team is assisting with coordination, logistics, and debris removal operations.
The Honolulu Incident Management Team requested the additional support due to widespread debris and damage across affected communities.
“This is what partnership looks like at its best,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “We are grateful to the FDNY Incident Management Team for answering the call and standing shoulder to shoulder with our crews.”
Officials said the FDNY team was created after the September 11, 2001, attacks and has since supported major disaster responses nationwide. The department has also worked closely with Hawaii’s incident management teams through prior training and collaboration.
“Our sole focus remains on the people of Oahu,” Blangiardi added. “Every additional resource helps us get one step closer to recovery.”
