A 19-year-old woman was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Queens while walking home from work late Sunday night, according to police and her family members.
The young woman, identified by police as Nishath Jannath, was crossing 62nd Street at Roosevelt Avenue in Woodside when a sanitation truck operated by Royal Waste Services hit her in the crosswalk around 11:55 p.m.
The truck was traveling west on Roosevelt Avenue and made a right-hand turn onto the northbound lane of 62nd Street when it hit her on the north side of the intersection, cops said.

Jannath was declared dead at the scene by EMS workers.
“My parents are devastated,” Jannath’s eldest sister, Nowshin Jannath, told The Post Monday morning at the family’s home in Queens. “Everyone is crying inside.”
Nowshin said her sister was walking home from her job as a receptionist at a parking garage on Parsons Boulevard in Jamaica, where she wears an all-black uniform.
When Nishath didn’t return home last night after getting off around 11 p.m., Nowshin went out to look for her. She tracked her sister’s phone location to the grisly scene around 2 a.m., where she found police everywhere.

“My sister was really optimistic. She is always talking to people, telling them to trust in God,” she recalled, adding that Nishath left behind two younger sisters, ages 9 and 4.
“Have hope. Death can come at any time, so be ready for it. Live in the present. Live for the moment. Stay out of the past and the future,” she said.
The driver of the sanitation truck, a 38-year-old woman, remained at the scene and was treated for minor injuries.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation by NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad remains ongoing.
