Forecasters are looking concerned about a low-pressure system developing off the East Coast that could bring storms over the Halloween weekend.

Millions of New Yorkers are set to hit the streets for the popular holiday, which this year falls on a Friday. But the developing weather system could dampen moods with the possibility of heavy rain and gusty winds forecasted.

Storms could bring heavy rain to New York for Halloween

A developing low-pressure system off the East Coast could bring a stormy twist to Halloween for millions across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Forecast models are signaling the potential for heavy rain, gusty winds, and widespread wet weather later this week.

While uncertainty remains about the exact track and strength of the system, meteorologists agree that unsettled weather is on the way.

This potential coastal storm follows a series of active weather systems already moving across the country, keeping forecasters on alert for how conditions will evolve heading into the holiday.

Where could the storm hit the East Coast over the Halloween weekend

The impacts of this developing system are expected to stretch from the Carolinas to New England.

The first round of rain will move into the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coasts on Tuesday, linked to the same storm system that produced severe weather and tornado warnings across the Gulf Coast and Texas over the weekend.

As that system exits, another disturbance is forecast to form off the coastal Carolinas, with early models suggesting it could travel up the East Coast.

New York is just one of the East Coast that could be hit. Others include Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

When could the storm hit New York over the Halloween weekend

The timing window for this system appears to be mid- to late-week, primarily Wednesday through Friday, coinciding with Halloween.

Meteorologist Bayne Froney from FOX Weather said: “Now we could see a low-pressure system setting up just off the coast of the Carolinas. Now, where this setup ends up kind of depends on this dip in the jet stream.

“If this dip comes out a little bit farther into the ocean off the coast, it may not be too much of an issue for us. It may just be kind of impacting areas up towards Canada. But if it sets up a little bit closer to the coast, then we may be having a little bit more of an issue, as we have that low-pressure system setting up and then drifting up to the Northeast.”

Both the European (EURO) and American (GFS) forecast models show a consensus for rain spreading northward through Thursday and Friday.

Storm could dampen Halloween in New York

This potential storm could disrupt Halloween festivities, travel plans, and commutes across New York.

Heavy rain, gusty winds, and possible coastal flooding could lead to slick roads, power outages, and delayed flights.

While details are still developing, the pattern highlights the dynamic nature of late-October weather and the importance of monitoring local forecasts.

As the system organizes, updates over the next few days will clarify how intense the impacts will be—and where Halloween may turn from spooky to soggy.
