ELON – Freshman Gar Hindle delivered the second walk-off hit of his young, Elon career on Tuesday night as Elon baseball (11-17) took down Queens (7-21), 8-7 in ten innings.
Hindle’s 10th inning single lifted the Phoenix to the win. The Rye, N.H. native was responsible for Elon’s first walk-off win in 2026, a 3-2 win over Fairfield earlier this season.
Cole Miller had his longest outing of his collegiate career on Tuesday. Miller went five innings, allowed two runs and struck out three in the no-decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After two clean innings, Elon got the scoring started in the third inning. A bases loaded walk to Brent Smith and a steal of home from Jackson Alford gave Elon a 2-0 lead.
Queens responded with a run of their own in the fourth on a sacrifice fly.
The Phoenix countered with two more runs in the fourth. A bases loaded walk from both DuRoff and Smith gave Elon a three-run advantage.
The Royals chipped away in the middle innings with a pair of runs to make it a one-run game.
Two 8th inning extra-base hits and three runs vaulted Queens to a two-run lead.
Elon answered with three runs of their own in the 8th. A Jose Mariano walk, a Henry Akopov hit-by-pitch and a Hindle sacrifice fly each brought in a run to give the Phoenix a one-run lead.
A 9th inning single from Queens tied the score.
In extra innings, Hindle took center stage. A two-out single to right field scored Simon Hoffman to give Elon the 8-7 win.
