CATSKILL, N.Y. — A Greene County man was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday in connection with an earlier alleged menacing of a 42-year-old woman with a firearm in the presence of a child, state police said Wednesday.
In a press release, state police said Ingus Drozds, 44, of Tannersville, was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Monday, March 30, before being turned over to state police at Catskill.
Police said an investigation began Friday, March 20, after Drozds allegedly menaced “a 42-year-old female victim with a firearm in the presence of a child.” Police said a Saturday, March 21, search of his Tannersville home yielded one AR-15 5.56/.223 caliber semi-automatic rifle and nine Amed2 30-round high-capacity magazines with red followers.
Drozds was charged with two counts of felony criminal possession of a weapon, as well as endangering the welfare of a child, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal purchase of a semiautomatic rifle, all misdemeanors. Drozds was arraigned in Catskill Town Court and sent to Greene County Jail, with bail set at $50,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
A full stay-away order of protection was issued for the victim, police said.
