A baby girl was fatally shot in Bushwick Wednesday afternoon and police are searching for the moped-riding gunmen.
The 7-month-old was shot near Moore and Humboldt streets around 1:20 p.m.
Heavy NYPD and FDNY presence overtook the intersection, just steps away from a day care.
A witness called the News 12 newsroom minutes after the shooting and said the baby was in a stroller when gunfire rang out. They say they saw a person running with the stroller moments later, shouting, “My baby! My baby!” They watched as the baby was scooped up by an adult who ran her to the nearest hospital before an ambulance arrived at the scene.
The baby died at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, police say.
An NYPD Crime Stoppers van at 131 Moore St. projected images of the suspected gunmen on a moped. It says authorities are offering up to $3,500 for information regarding the fatal shooting.
A second crime scene was established near Siegel Street and Manhattan Avenue where vehicle debris was scattered in the road.
Surveillance video of the crash shows the moped collide with a car and the two riders fly off of it. The pair proceeds to get back on the moped and ride away.
Police could not confirm if this was connected to the moped riders fleeing the scene.
Mamdani spoke about the incident during a press conference on child care on Wednesday afternoon.
“It was a tragedy that this baby was shot and killed and soon after this press conference, I will be joining the police commissioner to brief the media and the public. Our heart breaks for this family,” Mamdani said.
