An investigation is underway after NYPD officers shot and killed an armed man who was on parole in the Bronx on Thursday, according to law enforcement sources.
According to sources, the officers were looking for the 44-year-old Lucien Colón, wanted on a parole warrant for not registering as a sex offender, when shots were fired inside a Willis Avenue home around 7:15 a.m.
Sources say officers encountered Colón in a bedroom who allegedly showed a gun. Officers tried to deescalate the situation allegedly telling him to drop the gun and come out of the room, to which he said “that it was not “it’s not going to happen,” according to police.
Officers ultimately discharged their weapons, hitting Colón in the head, police said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead.
The officers were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
It’s not clear how many police bullets were fired. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Police said they cannot confirm if the gun found at the scene is a real gun but it is possibly a bb gun.
According to police, Colón had a criminal background that went back decades: he was on parole for a 2013 murder (having been released from prison in 2023), is a sex offender for a 1997 rape and also had an attempted murder arrest in 1995.
