Police said the baby, Kaori Patterson-Moore, was sitting in her stroller near Humboldt and Moore streets in Williamsburg Wednesday afternoon when a suspect sitting on the back of a moped nearby fired two rounds.
Patterson-Moore was struck by the gunfire and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, the NYPD said.
After the shooting, the moped driver and passenger sped off and were eventually both flung off the vehicle when it crashed, according to police.
The driver fled the scene, while the passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
Authorities said Patterson-Moore was not the intended target, and added that the shooting was believed to be gang-related.
“Amuri Greene has no arrest history in New York City,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at a news conference Thursday.
“We know that he is a gang associate out of the Marcy Houses, and at this point right now there is a gang in the Bushwick Houses called MOE,” Kenny added. “And we’re looking to see the possible connection between, a beef between the Marcy Houses, Bushwick Houses, meaning the gang MOE.”
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said police have identified the moped driver, but are not yet releasing his name.
