JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Baseball dropped Game 1 of its series against Queens, 7-3, at Harmon Stadium on Thursday.

Freshman infielder Drew Buchanan notched the first home run of his collegiate career and turned in a 1-2 outing with two RBI and two walks. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Carter White belted a solo home run and finished 1-4. It marked White’s sixth home run of the season.

Junior infielder Mitchell Collins went 2-4 with one walk. Collins is currently on a seven-game hit streak and has recorded a multi-hit game in three straight games.

Junior outfielder Gialdri Gomez went 1-5 and is now on a 12-game on-base streak and has reached base safely in 23 of the 24 games he’s played in.

Redshirt junior utility player Boone Hosey went 1-4. Hosey improved his on-base streak to 17 games and his hit streak to 12 games.

Senior left-handed pitcher Kai Etwaru was sensational out of the bullpen for North Florida. Etwaru dealt 4.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit and posted a season-high seven strikeouts with just two walks.

Queens opened the scoring with one run in top of the first inning and five in the second. Buchanan’s two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning cut North Florida’s deficit to four. White’s solo home run in the bottom of the sixth frame shrunk Queens’ lead to 6-3.

The Royals plated its final run in the top of the ninth inning to bring the score to its eventual final margin.
