The grandmother of a baby girl whose shooting death has reignited cries for more stringent measures to combat gun violence in New York City says her family is hurting, but leaning on faith to manage this tragedy.

“God is the ultimate judge in the world,” Linda Oyinkoinyan said.

She recalled the baby, what little personality she got a chance to develop during her 7 months in the world.

“She was a loving baby. She was an intelligent baby. She was good,” Oyinkoinyan said of her granddaughter. “No one wants to lose a child, understand? And it’s horrible.”

Shots rang out on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Brooklyn, near the corner of Moore and Humboldt streets in Williamsburg, officials have said. Streets abounded with strollers and pedestrians at the time.

Kaori Patterson-Moore was in her stroller. Her parents raced her into a nearby bodega for cover. When the mother looked inside the stroller, she jumped in agony, her hands flying to her head in shock and disbelief.

Surveillance video captures those heart-rending moments inside the store.

Two men were seen speeding away on a moped after the shooting; video appeared to show the one riding in back pull out a gun and fire twice. The moped crashed, and both suspects were thrown from the vehicle. The suspected shooter fell hard. He was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned on murder, attempted murder and assault charges later Friday.

The second suspect remains at large.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch has described what happened as an event that “truly shocks the conscience.” She says the NYPD has identified the second suspect; they are not releasing his name at this time.
