CHARLOTTE, N.C. – North Florida won both games of its doubleheader to earn its first series win against Queens at The Stick Williams Dream Fields in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday afternoon.

The Ospreys also set a new Division I program record with 87 stolen bases this season.

After a leadoff triple for graduate student Hallie Langford in game one of the doubleheader, her fourth of the season, junior utility player Addie Keef gave the Ospreys an early lead with an RBI single to left field.

After a leadoff double and a sacrifice bunt for Queens in the bottom half of the second inning, sophomore right-handed pitcher Taylor Cook recorded a strikeout and a groundout to leave the runner stranded at third base and keep Queens off the scoreboard.

Cook would pitch 5.1 innings to earn the win and improve to 5-3 this season. Junior right-handed pitcher Cameron Ponich would earn her first save of the season spinning 1.2 scoreless innings.

UNF plated two runs in the third inning, capitalizing on three singles and a pair of throwing errors.

A walk to junior infielder Hannah Davila and double to left field from senior infielder Ayden Allen would put two Ospreys in scoring position with one out. Langford would bring in both runners with a single to left field to extend UNF’s lead to 5-0.

Queens would cut into the North Florida lead with three runs in the sixth inning, but the Ospreys responded with a four-run frame in the seventh inning.  Sophomore catcher Caiden Oliva got the scoring started with a solo home run.

Junior infielder Hannah Davila belted the Ospreys’ second home run of the inning to left field. For Davila, it was her sixth homer of the season. Langford would pick up her fourth RBI of the game with a single to extend North Florida’s lead to 9-3.

For the second-consecutive game, North Florida scored in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead after a bases-loaded RBI single from sophomore outfielder Kennedy McQuillan.

Langford would belt her first home run of the year into deep right field to extend the Osprey lead in the second inning. Queens would tack on a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame to narrow the UNF lead back to one.

The Royals would grab their first lead of the series with three runs in the third inning to take a 4-2 advantage.

The Ospreys answered right back with a pair of runs in the fourth to tie the game off a two-out two RBI triple for junior infielder Bella Cimino. For Cimino, it marked her first triple of the season.

McQuillan would begin the fifth inning by sending her second double of the game into right center field. Davila’s RBI single would bring her around to score and give UNF their first lead of the game. An Allen double would bring in the Ospreys’ second run of the frame. A wild pitch would plate another run and give the Ospreys a three-run advantage.

Queens would narrow the lead with a run in the sixth, but a two-out RBI double to left center from Langford in the seventh inning, her eighth of the season, would push the UNF lead back out to three runs.

Ponich would record her second save of the day with 1.1 scoreless innings.
