WASHINGTON (TNND) — Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers voted in the city’s mayoral election as democratic socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani gained more support from Democrats.

Early voting in New York began Oct. 25, drawing over 164,000 early voters, according to the New York City Board of Elections.

Mamdani had a major rally on Sunday with 10,000 attendees, according to local media. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., were in attendance to support him.

Mamdani also got the endorsement of Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul.

She attended a rally to support him and was met with chants of “tax the rich.”

Mamdani thanked the governor for her endorsement.

“Together, we’ll stand up to an authoritarian federal government and deliver a city we can afford,” he wrote on X. “Thank you @KathyHochul, @AndreaSCousins and Speaker Carl Heastie.”

He also got the endorsement of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.

“Zohran Mamdani has relentlessly focused on addressing the affordability crisis and explicitly committed to being a mayor for all New Yorkers, including those who do not support his candidacy,” Jeffries told the New York Times last week.

“In that spirit, I support him and the entire citywide Democratic ticket in the general election,” he continued.

President Donald Trump predicted last week that Mamdani would likely become New York City’s next mayor.

Mamdani’s campaign got into a little bit of controversy last week after the New York Knicks basketball team sent a “cease and desist” letter for using its logo in a campaign advertisement.
