Riverdale, NY – The University of Mount Saint Vincent fell in a four-set match to St. Joseph’s University Brooklyn, despite putting together a strong offensive effort. It was the season finale for a Dolphins team that took major strides forward, but ultimately fell short of their goal of Skyline Conference playoffs.

UMSV finished 8-15 overall and 4-10 against the Skyline.

The Dolphins kept pace all afternoon, dropping each set by six or less points. The team was led by Tyler Hanna, who recorded a team-high 16 kills on a 56% hit percentage while adding two service aces. The sophomore put together his second straight standout campaign and will be a focal point of the offense going forward. So, too, will freshmen Jose Dominguez and Raeden Nieves, who followed closely with 15 kills and 11 kills, wrapping up an impressive debut season Riverdale for the duo.

Christian Ferrer directed the offense with 43 assists, while contributing across the stat sheet with four digs and three aces. Defensively, Roel Lucero led the Dolphins with seven digs. Matthew Barrancos, Quinn Hohbein and Yestro Luciano Jr. also played pivotal roles in this season’s success.

The Dolphins may have not reached their ultimate goal, but the future is extremely bright for the program. With all but Barrancos and Sean Schools expected to return next season and a full season under their belt, UMSV will be primed to make a run towards the conference tournament.
