CLAYTON, New York (WWNY) – As the weather starts to warm up, a couple new businesses are popping up in Clayton.
“Bright colors, fun things, they get to fill a whole bag of candy, fill a box of candy and leave with big smiles on their face.”
That’s Kassandra Kittle, the co-owner of the Sweet Bar, a new business.
Kittle said she came up with the idea as she saw more families and young kids walking around downtown in the summer.
“We really just wanted to bring something to Riverside Drive that would be a big win for the kids, because if the kids are happy, we know the parents are happy,” Kittle said.
The shop includes all sorts of candy, chocolate, and over a dozen flavors of homemade fudge.
While the Sweet Bar brings something new to Clayton, a familiar favorite is getting a new spin.
Valentina Carr and her partner Matt, owners of Bodega 524, recently bought the Koffe Kove, a popular diner on James Street.
They’re rebranding it as “The Kove.”
“We’re going to make everyone that used to come in for 50 years very happy and we’re going to make all the new guests for the next fifty years happy as well,” Carr said.
Carr said they plan to retain much of the staff, and staple dishes while still adding their own style and some new features.
“So we want to bring in a grab and go breakfast option, as well as a late night pick up window. Which we think is going to be really great in the summer,” Carr said.
“Sometimes, you know, you’re out on the boat until the sun goes down because you don’t want to let go of the river and then you get into town and everything is kind of shutdown for dinner, so we’re going to be offering a late night menu hopefully till around midnight in the summer,” Carr said.
One more change to note: the return of Jreck Subs. Signs were going up Friday for the Jrecks which is opening on the corner of James and Riverside.
