BUFFALO, N.Y. — A man accused of traveling from Florida to Western New York to have sex with a minor is going to prison.

Federal prosecutors said Cardoso Tehovnik, who was 21 years old at the time, started to communicate with a 16-year-old on social media in February of 2024. Between then and April of 2024, “the minor victim sent a video file and two image files depicting the minor victim to Cardoso Tehovnik, each of which constituted child pornography,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
He then flew to Florida to Western New York and rented a hotel room. He met the victim in that room on April 27, 2024, “and the two engaged in sexual intercourse,” prosecutors said.
They continued to communicate on social media through June of 2024, when Cardoso Tehovnik again traveled to meet the 16-year-old girl. He picked her up from school, with the intention of taking her to Florida, prosecutors said. They were found in New Jersey, where he was arrested and taken into custody.
