It is the start of a new month, and it is the perfect time to see how much money you could be owed from New York State. The state gives back around $2 million every day through its unclaimed fund department, and some of that money might be yours.
Does New York State Owe You Any Money?
On average, according to their website, the New York State Comptroller’s office returns $2 million to entitled owners from the state’s unclaimed funds account.
This money is sent to the state for several reasons. They include money that’s been lost or forgotten over time from old bank accounts, uncashed checks, stock certificates, and unused gift cards. After a certain time period, that money is transferred to New York State, where it will be held until it is claimed.
The best part it is quick, easy, and free to see if New York State owes you any money.
