A pregnant passenger aboard a New York-bound flight gave birth before the plane touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Saturday.

“We have a passenger, a pregnant passenger who is going into labor at this time,” one pilot of Jamaica Airlines flight BW005 said in an audio recording of Air Traffic Control obtained by CBS News.

Caribbean Airlines confirmed with PIX11 that the flight originated from Kingston, Jamaica, and was headed to JFK. Airline officials said there was never an emergency declaration during the flight.

“Upon arrival, the mother and newborn were attended by medical personnel and are receiving necessary care,” a Jamaica Airlines spokesperson said.

One Air Traffic Controller even joked that the baby should be named after the airport once the pilot confirmed that the child had been delivered.

“Tell [the mother] that she has to name [the baby] Kennedy,” the controller said.

“Haha, Kennedy. Will do,” the pilot responded.

Airline officials did not provide the health status of the mother or the child.
