ALBANY, New York (WWNY) – A retired state police sergeant who was once stationed in Canton has died from an illness stemming from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
Steven Greene passed away last Friday. He was 65.
Greene had served with the state police for more than 20 years. He was a zone sergeant who was last assigned to Troop B, Zone 2 in Canton.
According to police, Greene’s passing is a line-of-duty death because he died from an illness stemming from his assignment in and around the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
Greene retired on July 17, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his sons, Robert and Daniel.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
