New York State’s primary elections are just a few months away, and for candidates who are looking to be on the ticket, the deadline to submit ballot petitions is closing in. Once submissions have been processed, the candidates will officially be announced. That document must be turned in to their county’s board of elections by 5 p.m. Monday, April 6.Clinton County Clerk Brandi Lloyd said that with the primaries just a few months away, it’s a good time for voters to start getting to know potential candidates. “In New York, we’re a closed primary state, which means you have to be registered with the party that’s having the primary … It’s important to pay attention to what’s going on with the primaries, because that’s a vital choice that we have,” Lloyd said.The big primary race in the North Country is for the NY-21 Congressional seat. Elise Stefanik is not running for reelection in the 21st District. So far, Blake Gendebien and Stuart Amoriell will be listed on the Democratic ticket, while Anthony Constantino and Robert Smullen are running for the Republican vote.
