Police are searching for a group of car thieves who made their way into a Hell’s Kitchen garage early Sunday morning, attempting to steal luxury vehicles.

A 2020 McLaren — valued between $200,000 and $400,000 — was left heavily damaged after police said the thieves stole it from a parking garage on West 43rd Street, near the West Side Highway, only to crash it about a block away.

Midtown food truck owner Ahmed Kharboush said the scene felt like witnessing a movie shoot.

“It’s a great car, you know what I mean? I think what happened is — he try to steal,” said Kharboush. “He try to take the turn over here, and he just smash into the pole, he doesn’t know how to drive it so why he steal it?”

According to police, the incident began around 6 a.m., when four to five men attempted to steal luxury vehicles from the garage in what investigators described as an auto theft operation.

Inside the garage, the group gained access to a McLaren, a Range Rover and other luxury vehicles, police said. A parking attendant lowered the metal gate during the heist, cutting off the group’s exit.

One suspect was able to drive off in the McLaren but crashed shortly afterward into a nearby pole. The group then fled the scene in their own BMW.

“I mean that’s crazy. I can’t believe that people would really try that, and I’m glad it didn’t go far, but I hope the car is okay,” said Mollie Fink.

According to NYPD data, auto thefts rose slightly from 1,021 incidents in March 2025 to 1,049 this March, marking an increase of about 2.7%.

However, overall auto theft is down so far this year. From January through March, there were 2,773 reported incidents, compared with 3,148 during the same period last year, marking a decrease of about 11.9%.
