ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) — Republican Assemblyman Robert Smullen, who is running for New York’s 21st Congressional District, says he has officially filed to appear on the Republican ballot for the June primary.

Smullen is seeking to replace outgoing Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. Stefanik previously launched a campaign for governor, later dropped out of that race, and is expected to leave Congress after the midterm elections.

Smullen faces competition in the Republican primary. Sticker Mule Chief Executive Officer Anthony Constantino is also running for the nomination. Constantino is highlighting an endorsement from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Giuliani announced he is backing Constantino’s campaign, saying America needs “100 Constantinos” and arguing Constantino will fight for the American people.
