On Sunday, Oct. 26, Umphrey’s McGee returned to the stage for the third and final performance in their three-night series at Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Brooklyn Bowl. The pioneering jam-fusion ensemble’s mini-residency was a hotly anticipated affair, and their first two performances went above and beyond high expectations with a series of tributes to recently departed stars Ace Frehley, D’Angelo, Anthony Jackson and Sam Rivers and guest spots from Brandy Watt and Rory Dolan. Night three proved to be the most electrifying of the run with more surprise appearances, this time featuring Daniel Donato, Blu DeTiger and Ross Bogan.
Umphrey’s McGee set off their Sunday show with “There’s No Crying In Mexico,” which launched a masterfully segued series of “Puppet String,” “Glory” and “The Linear.” After opening the latter, the quintet was joined by celebrated Nashville axeman Donato, who took over on electric guitar for the Asking for a Friend essential and then led the way into a cover of Derek and the Dominoes’ “Bell Bottom Blues,” performed by UM for the first time since 2005.
After Donato sauntered out of the spotlight, Umphrey’s McGee wrapped up their first frame with “Push the Pig” and a return to “Puppet String.” The band returned for their second set with “Staircase,” followed by the Blueprints centerpiece “Out of Focus.” After a beat, singer-songwriter and bassist DeTiger stepped in for Ryan Stasik to lay down a funky backbeat for a cover of Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover.”
The core quintet reformed before being joined by Doom Flamingo keyboardist Ross Bogan, who bolstered UM’s own setlist staple “Wappy Strawberry.” With a set-closing “August,” the band concluded a memorable weekend with one last encore of “Got Your Milk (Right Here)” and “All In Time.’
Umphrey’s McGee will return ot the stage on Nov. 6 to set off another three-night series set at Indianapolis’ The Vogue Theatre. For tickets and more information on the remainder of the band’s 2025 live itinerary and their recently announced 2026 Sky’s The Limit Tour, visit umphreys.com/tour.
