NEW YORK (PIX11) — A man was found dead in the stairwell of a NYCHA building in Lower Manhattan on Monday, police said.
Officers found the unidentified man with bruising on his forehead in the 4th-floor stairwell at the Lillian Wald Houses on East 6th Street at around 6:05 a.m., according to the NYPD and sources.

The man, who appeared to be in his 40s, was taken to the hospital, where he died, police said. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
It was unclear if the man was a victim of a crime. Police could not immediately say if he lived in the building.
The investigation is ongoing.
