On October 14, New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed an executive order creating the Office of Digital Assets and Blockchain Technology within the Office of the Mayor of New York City. The executive order tasks the new office, to be led by an executive director reporting to the chief technology officer, with supporting the growth of the digital asset and blockchain industry in New York City and strengthening the city’s position as a global financial hub.

The executive order provides the new office will develop strategies to attract investment and talent, advise the mayor on policy and legislative opportunities, and coordinate with the New York City Economic Development Corporation to encourage responsible industry expansion. The office also will evaluate new digital assets, promote public education on digital asset use, and collaborate with other New York City agencies to align digital asset initiatives and policies. The order took effect upon signing.
