Cole last pitched during the 2024 season.

He went 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA in 17 games.

The six-time MLB All-Star missed the entire 2025 season due to injury.

ESPN had written on March 10, 2025: “New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow to repair a torn right ulnar collateral ligament and miss the 2025 season, the team announced on Monday.”

Cole’s Incredible MLB Career

Cole was the first pick in the 2011 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He lived up to the hype, making the All-Star Game in his third season (at just 24).

Cole then had a brief stint with the Houston Astros where he had a 2.68 ERA in 65 games.

After signing with New York before the 2020 season, Cole went on to win the Cy Young Award (in 2023).

Over 317 career games, he has gone 153-80 with a 3.18 ERA.

The Yankees already have an incredible pitching staff right now.

Therefore, Cole returning to action would be an unbelievable addition.

@nyyankeesstats wrote (on April 1): “Yankee starters have a 0.53 ERA this season. That’s the best by any team through six games in MLB history.”
