BOROUGH PARK – A THREE-ALARM FIRE THAT broke out at a mixed-use building on Fort Hamilton Parkway on Tuesday night forced out four families and injured several firefighters, News 12 reports

The blaze began in the basement of the three-story building at around 7:45 p.m., before spreading to a business on the first floor. The FDNY brought the fire under control around 11 p.m.

Six or seven firefighters received medical treatment at the scene, while one was brought to a hospital with minor injuries. The Red Cross is providing emergency housing to four families who had to evacuate the building’s upper floors, including 15 adults and seven children.

The Department of Buildings has declared the structure unsafe, as fire officials investigate the cause of the outbreak.
