Police shot a person with a knife after three people were stabbed on a subway platform at Grand Central Terminal Saturday morning, the NYPD said.

Police said an 84-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man were stabbed on the platform before 10 a.m. They were all taken to local hospitals and are in stable condition, authorities said.

After the three were stabbed, police said a person holding a knife was shot by an NYPD officer. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, according to police.

On Saturday afternoon, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the person with the knife had since died.

“I’m grateful to the NYPD for their quick response and for preventing additional violence,” he wrote on social media. “The three victims were taken to the hospital and are thankfully in stable condition.”

“The NYPD is conducting an internal investigation and will release body-worn camera footage, as it does in all incidents involving the discharge of an officer’s firearm,” he added.

Police said a knife was recovered at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.

The NYPD is advising passersby to avoid the area around Grand Central.

“Expect delays and heavy traffic in the surrounding area,” the department said on social media.

In a statement, Gov. Kathy Hochul said she had been briefed on the incident.

“We’re working closely with the NYPD as the investigation unfolds,” she added.
