A consultant’s report released to the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) about overuse of the High Peaks in the Adirondack Park, as well as Kaaterskill Cove in the Catskills, will help the state address the impact that crowded trails are having on both regions of the state.
The reports will be the foundation of the DEC’s new management plan for visitors to sensitive areas in the forest preserve.
One of the recommendations for the High Peaks is to limit the number of daily visitors to certain areas using a permitting system.
DEC is asking for public comments on the plan until June 1 at forestpreserve@dec.ny.gov.
