Firefighters rushed to extinguish an empty apartment building in Manhattan that caught on fire on Sunday morning.

FDNY said it received calls of a fire that reached multiple floors of the building at the corner of 22nd Street and Seventh Ave, in Chelsea, shortly after 6 a.m.

FDNY officials said that the building was empty but that two firefighters were sent to hospitals after minor injuries from helping extinguish the fire.

Nearly 200 firefighter personnel were on the scene for the three-alarm fire, according to the FDNY

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Sen. Erik Bottcher, who represents Manhattan’s West Side, said the building itself had a “long and frustrating history.”

“It’s a real shame. This is an old and architecturally interesting building, and I strongly hope it can be saved,” Bottcher said in a social media post.
