“Pathways” initiative bring Manhattan and Salina Tech students to Kansas State University

  • October 28, 2025

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – Kansas State University is launching a new initiative to bring more students to campus.

“We want to make sure that we’re recruiting graduates to the university, and this is one way to ensure that students have that opportunity,” said K-State Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Karen Goos.

K-State’s MHK and SLN Pathways are two-semester programs to bring Manhattan Area Technical College and Salina Area Technical College students to the university.

“The best way to do that is to create partnerships with our local communities for students who might not think that this is an option or to be able to gain a bachelor’s degree that they’re not quite ready [for],” Goos said.

Students in the programs will have the opportunity to live on K-State’s campus and participate in university life they wouldn’t get at their tech schools.

“I can go to football games, I can be a part of the health center,” Goos said. “I can, you know, engage in all the activities and groups to make it feel like I’m a part of that college experience and I’m not missing out on that.”

Pathways students are eligible to transfer to Kansas State full-time after completing 24 credit hours and earning a 2.0 GPA.

“I think it provides an opportunity for access,” Goos said. “It also provides them with the supports they need to not get thrown in and say you’ve been admitted and maybe you’re not ready and it can be really overwhelming.”

The programs are set to begin in the spring semester.
