A man is dead and a frantic manhunt is underway for the gunman after a shooting erupted in a Brooklyn apartment on Sunday morning.

According to police sources, the incident unfolded at around 10:52 a.m. inside of 75 Cumberland Walk. Cops said they received a 911 call reporting that shots were fired inside of apartment 12E. Officers from the 88th Precinct and Police Service Area 4 rushed to the scene to discover a 43-year-old lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest and arm. 

EMS rushed the victim to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending proper family notification.

Cops flooded the area, including NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit (ESU), who geared up with long guns, shields, and even a K9 dog and entered the building in search of the suspect. For about 30 minutes, the dog’s barks could be heard echoing outside of the building.

“This looks like a movie,” one local resident said, watching the specialized officers enter the building.

ESU ultimately left without apprehending anyone.

Inside, uniformed officers could be seen standing on the 12th floor outside of the apartment, a breathing mask was discarded on the floor by the door.

Police said a ballistic search is underway. The unknown perpetrator fled the scene on foot and remains at large. A motive for the slaying is not yet clear.

The investigation remains ongoing.
