CITYWIDE — DEMOCRATIC MAYORAL NOMINEE and Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani told CNN he intends to retain Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch if elected, but has not yet spoken to her about the offer.
“I haven’t had a private conversation with her on that,” Mamdani said. He praised Tisch for her efforts towards reducing corruption and lowering crime, saying she could help “deliver on the agenda I’ve been running on.” The assemblymember has moderated on his crime stances over the course of the campaign, recently apologizing for previous calls to defund the police.
Tisch, a billionaire heiress and former sanitation chief supported by Governor Hochul, has not commented publicly on Mamdani’s remarks.
