New York State Police are investigating after a suspect was fatally shot in the town of LaFayette after police say she struck and killed a woman with a vehicle.

According to police, they received reports of a erratic driver speeding through residential yards on Shute Road just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

They say the female driver struck a woman with her truck before police got there.

Police say a man tried to stop the suspect by putting his vehicle behind hers when the suspect backed into him. When a state trooper arrived, police say the driver had run over a woman and a second man who was trying to help.

Police say the suspect continued her actions even after repeated commands to stop. The trooper then shot at the vehicle, hitting the only person inside.

The suspect was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where she later died. The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The two men were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is underway. The state Attorney General’s Office also responded to the scene.
