It’s a new day in New York. After firing Brian Daboll midway through his fourth season in November, the Giants landed the top coaching candidate on the market this offseason. John Harbaugh will be getting a fresh start for the first time in nearly two decades after spending 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
While the Giants made the playoffs with a surprise run in 2022, it’s been downhill since — they went 13-38 over the past three seasons — so Harbaugh will be tasked with, at the very least, getting them back to .500. Fortunately for the Giants, the quarterback question is answered; Jaxson Dart is coming off a strong rookie year.
Scouting the decision-makers
While the Giants parted ways with Daboll, they retained general manager Schoen. It was a controversial choice, but Harbaugh and Schoen have spoken positively of their new partnership. They’ve navigated free agency together. The draft will be one of the biggest tests yet of their dynamic.

Giants’ key positions of need
Right guard: The Giants brought back right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, solidifying their tackle spots. But right guard remains a question mark with pieces but no clear starter. Their re-signings and additions include Aaron Stinnie, Lucas Patrick, Josh Ezeudu and Evan Neal. The draft could offer a long-term solution to the position.
Defensive tackle: Even before Dexter Lawrence’s trade request went public, the Giants should have been thinking about the trenches. The position wasn’t heavily invested in during free agency, with the team signing DT Sam Roberts a few weeks into the process. But Lawrence’s request shone a light on the room, which has a need for younger talent.
Wide receiver: The Giants are sure to run a lot more 12 personnel with the addition of tight end Isaiah Likely, but a young receiver to throw in the mix isn’t the worst idea following the departure of Wan’Dale Robinson in free agency, and Malik Nabers’ ongoing recovery from a knee injury. The Giants added veterans Calvin Austin and Darnell Mooney on one-year prove-it-deals.
